Home Schooling

Beaven & Associates offers all the basic resources for a child’s home schooling. Our competencies extend across academic curricula:

  • Science — general science, biology, chemistry and physics
  • Math — algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability & statistics, calculus
  • Foreign languages — Latin, Greek, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian
  • Humanities — English writing and reading skills, cultural studies
  • Social sciences — history, economics, psychology

The tutors of Beaven and Associates with their many decades of teaching can design and customize a comprehensive curriculum for home school students from grade school to college level.

Parents who consider home schooling should bear in mind that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and our neighboring state of New Hampshire have set requirements and guidelines for this option, including parental assumption of full responsibility for the child’s education — a responsibility that some parents might not be able to undertake as a full-time effort.

We will be glad to work out with parents a design for a curriculum spanning a year, part of a year, or multiple years for studies in a single subject or several. Our flexibility enables us to address all aspects of a curriculum or a single facet of a subject area. We will also work with parents on obtaining recognized credit for a student’s coursework.

All students undergo a preliminary evaluation to gauge academic proficiencies and needs. For any given student the number of courses and duration of the session may vary, so please call for information on fees.

Resources

Our facilities include rich library holdings and a network of PC stations for homework, Internet research, and remote tutoring via e-learning sessions. As adjuncts to home schooling, we also offer:

  • Expertise in test preparation — The Agency has over twenty-five years’ experience preparing students for standardized state and national tests, such as SAT I and SAT II, SSAT, and PSAT, used as criteria for private schools, undergraduate and graduate school admissions.
  • Computer literacy — Document processing and file handling skills, computer usage, and Internet navigation skills are taught using the in-office network.
  • European enrichment — During regular second term school vacation breaks, guided educational tours to Europe are arranged on an ad hoc demand basis, with recent trips conducted to Italy, France and Spain. Some trips to Spain and Italy offer a home-stay visit. Summer opportunities are available to host exchange students from those same countries.
